Distribution in a Nutshell
The Abenakis council of Odanak has decided that a portion of the of the compensation obtained for the settlement of the Mission St-François and 38 lots specific claims will be distributed to Eligible Members.

A Historic Settlement Agreement in January 2025
In January 2025, a historic agreement was reached: the federal government committed to paying $190 million to Odanak to settle its specific claims relating to the Saint-François Mission and the 38 Lots.
Starting in May 2025, the Abenaki of Odanak First Nation held consultation sessions with its members to hear their views on the terms and conditions for the use and management of the funds.
Non-trust distribution to members
In November 2025, the Abenaki Council of Odanak informed its members that a portion of the compensation would be distributed to eligible members.
The distribution consists of two components:
- Non-trust distribution , for adults (18 years of age and older) who were members of Odanak as of March 13, 2026
- Trust distribution (to come), for minor members and the estates of members who were alive as of June 30, 2023, but who passed away before March 13, 2026, or since March 13, 2026, if they have not claimed their share of the distribution.
The non-trust distribution claim period runs from August 1 to October 31, 2026. Each eligible member is entitled to CAD $19,843, less applicable banking fees and, in certain cases, repayment of debts owing to Council.

2. Provide Your Identification Documents
Include legible copies of two valid (non-expired) pieces of identification that show your date of birth and were issued by a government authority.
3. Choose a Payment Method
Select the payment method that best suits your needs from the available options.
4. Provide Your Banking Information
If applicable, include documents from your financial institution that will enable us to process your payment.
Important: You must submit all required documents so that we can process your claim as quickly as possible.
